I admit, I haven't kept myself current on the weapons and tactics used by police forces in the U.S. I know they are unionized, lack real competition, funded by state thugs, and thus, think (accurately, it seems) they can do whatever they want.

I realize some police forces have "upgraded" their arsenals with armored tanks. That's understandable. War zones like Portland, Maine (WTF?!) definitely need them.

But the following news item caught me by surprise...

Even the NYPD's Anti-Aircraft Arsenal Wouldn't Have Stopped 9/11 - National - The Atlantic Wire

The NYPD has anti-aircraft weaponry? Good grief.

From The Atlantic Wire:

On Monday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg answered the natural follow-up question when he told reporters that the NYPD's air power "certainly does not mean 9/11 wouldn't have occurred." Then the mayor got a little testy, telling the New York Post, "It's not my job to rehash history."

NYPD:

The mission is to enhance the quality of life in the city by working in accordance with constitutional rights to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear, blah, blah, blah...
lol

What "competition" would you like the police to have? Also, who should fund them?

Do you even read the shit you link to?

"The Portland Press Herald says the track-driven M113s were offered for free as surplus property by the Department of Defense last fall. The Portland police got two of them, one of them to be used for parts. The vehicles are sometimes referred to as a "tanks."

Please leave this board before you lower the collective intelligence further.

You have always struck me as smart, insightful, and witty. That must be the reason I'm so inclined to engage you in conversation. lol

All funded by the drug war.

Oh, don't get me started, Dan. ;)

Tanks and APCs are all well and good when you need to pull over a somebody for making an illegal left hand turn but what good are they going to do when Euro-trash terrorists take over a downtown high rise?
