Silk Road and Bitcoins - Buy drugs online?

I can't see it on reddit? :S The pastebin link you posted only has 552 passwords on it, and that's not user numbers 1-552, comparing it to the md5 database. Looks like it's just the easiest passwords to hack.

There was just one posted to IRC with about 8,000 passwords. By the time I went to download it, it was already deleted.

Ah, kk.

P.S. God this mtgox bullshit is pissing me off - all I want to do is make an urgent transaction on silk road, but I can't send my bitcoins there because mtgox is temporarily closed. An hour ago it said it was closed until 1AM GMT, now it says until 2AM GMT (which is the time now) "/

lol, fuck Mt. Gox. That shit is dead forever. Now they are saying they weren't *really* hacked. And that "The unsalted user accounts in the wild are ones that haven't been accessed in over 2 months and are considered idle," which is also bullshit, because people on IRC are in that list and they signed up last week.

Damn man I feel really sorry for you :( You've been getting butt fucked all the way around with this. You still trying to get all your shiz together for the festival you're going to? By the way which one are you going to?

I have the list, if anyone wants to verify if they're on it or not. I will not be sending the list out.

The CSV I have has 62,000 users in it. Passwords are still hashed though - the reddit links I saw have been taken down now

I see you're on the list.

I am, thankfully I didn't use a variation on any of my existing passwords for this, and it's 10+ characters with letters/num/symbols anyway. I'm also one of the ones that got salted. So I really have nothing to worry about save for annoying emails and possible phishing attempts. I also don't have and never have had any bitcoins, so it's not like compromising that account would do anything either.

I was surprised how fast Google jumped on this. My account was disabled long before I ever heard about the Mt. Gox hack. I had to go through phone verification and number verification to use the account again. There was even a Google employee in IRC... which was the first time I've ever seen an actual Google employee make contact with people like that.

People with google for domains accounts didn't get the same alerts, so if you use a custom domain with gmail and are on the list, change your shit post haste everyone.

It looks like the accounts *most* at risk are the very early ones - not all accounts under 3040 had salted passwords. Everything beyond that does, which will help some.

Yeah it seems to be one thing after another :( Put some money in mtgox at the beginning of last week to buy everything, by the time I'd got the orders together, Silk Road was offline.. Then when it comes back online, mtgox has this.

The post goes at 4pm today (currently 10.30 AM) and if it's first class should arrive in 1-2 days, so Tuesday/Wednesday... I have to leave at 9.30 wednesday morning to get on the coach, so I may not even get the wednesday post.. There's nextday delivery you can get, but then the parcels get xrayed/checked.

May not be a great idea to discuss your plans to commit crimes on a public forum.

This is the one thing that could potentially put the nail in the coffin for BC going main stream. People need to trust that their money and info is safe. When a bank gets compromised people bitch and moan but at the end of the day the bank will "take care of it" but with some magical "exchange" who the hell runs it some guy in his basement? I realize this isn't the case but the average shlup off the street wont see it.

For an industry made by and run by tech savvy people your always gonna have some very smart people trying to game the system. And without an institution to protect people it can never really be accepted.
