I saw this yesterday, and thought about that. Did some reading around and apparently they are trolls trolling for lawsuits. Makes me sad to think I get angry when the serps don't roll my way all the time, and they have guys like you and I dying on the other side of the world daily.
Just looked at their compound on google maps. (Westboro Baptist Church, Downtown Topeka, KS) These guys are certifiably nutzoid.
In their small church that looks more like a house they've got a huge banner across the front that says "www.GodHatesAmerica.com" and they're hanging Canadian and American flags from the flagpole a few feet away.
One Molitoff from a moving vehicle is all it would take, and I-70 is just a few blocks away.
After that happens once or twice, you can bet their insurance will drop those troublemakers like a ball of plasma...

They don't just protest funerals. They usually have people outside of college games and local events with their "god hates fags" signs as well.

Westboro Baptist Church is a complete joke. Regardless of anyone's religious affiliation, or lack there of, calling this group of imbeciles a church isn't much different than someone taking a dump on a stage and calling it art.
Yep - that's an awesome thing to do. Whatever you think of the rights and wrongs of the war they're involved in, behaving like Westboro whilst the families grieve is despicable.
One of us should grab a cheap domain as anonymously as possible and host it on freeservers, ranking for the kw "Westboro Baptist Church" - We could all pitch in a few links.
On the site it would be a detailed plan for anybody to destroy them, such as detailed maps, including an escape plan to the nearest interstate exit, etc... Boy would that be fun!

I was just thinking about how the ppl who REALLY should be upset with them are other Baptists. There must be 50 Million Baptists in the USA, none of them as extreme as these dimwits, yet none of them seem smart enough to come forward and force Westboro to change their denominational affiliation.
I guess they're just too damn unaware that other countries exist. People in Europe are all starting to get the idea that all Baptists would picket funerals with hatemongering messages.
I am a Baptist, and believe me, we have tried. Can't do it, though. Not legally.
On another note, they came a town town I was living in, and the city had to allow them a space to picket before a funeral. The city gave them a median on a busy road that is about 12 inches across. I was proud of our city that day.
