That's funny that you made this post. I have been doing what you described in the OP for a few months now, don't be surprised if they ask you if you have called them before since I called hundreds of companies.

I didn't like cold calling, I am not a good phone-sales person. I found going into business and talking with the owners has made me much more money.

that happened to me about 50:50 when i was doing work for clients back in the day. they were all enthuastic about 'getting on the internet' and handed over the money, then i never heard from them again! i equate it to people who buy e-books the whole time, they feel great buying the shit telling themselves it's money that'll make money.

i'm thinking of getting back into it, and upselling overpriced hosting to them, get their credit card on file and bill €40 a month or something. could make a nice bit with people not cancelling.

I don't do any of this but i remember after reading soupy's similar post a while back, I managed to get 2 sales from 2 calls worth over $7000 now as they became direct sponsors to my websites which were not even making $300 a month

I don't really do that kind of calling at the moment.. That was more just a fun test... However the web design is still a major part of my business model. However, the way I do it, I spend almost no time on customer support... Plus once you sell someone the website, you have multiple chances to turn that client into recurring revenue by offering any number of things..
