hello everyone!
My name's Chip, 41 from North Carolina.
I've been involved in internet marketing from the beginning (1993) and have the dubious distinction of having bought the very first keyword search ads from Yahoo.
Did the startup thing in the 1990's, got into corporate marketing & strategy in 2000's (still there), but developing some side businesses in internet media and mobile applications.
Excited to get my hands dirty again in the marketing trenches - appreciate folks' patience as I get back up to speed.

If it's all right I'd just like to go by my pseudonym. I'm 27 years old and unemployed. Aside from applying to local job openings, I want to make productive use of my time and this seems like a good place to learn how to do that.
I've worked as a telemarketer for SEO services in California, but my sales skills were insufficient; I've moved to another state where the cost of living is much less.
I have one direct experience with internet marketing. I paid for a turnkey website selling an ebook and paid for some PPC. I never got any conversions, so the first milestone I'd like to achieve here is to make one dollar of profit.

I was looking to build a startup, but after seeing the world of SEO, and noticed there could be a linear relationship with income and effort when it comes to IM, I launched two small affiliate sites.
I made my first $ through word of mouth referral for a WordPress theme. No keywords, no PPC campaign, didn't even have a blog site, just straight up: "I heard you're looking for a website. Use WordPress, and buy this theme. Use my affiliate link that I just setup, I'll email it to you, and I'll get a small commission for my free advice". Realized that wasn't so hard. I was pretty clear that to expand this, it would probably be a good idea to learn some IM and SEO from a place like this.

I'm Kirk from Iowa, USA, middle of nowhere. I've done some casual web design and development over the years and have been curious about internet marketing for some time. Never been interested enough to cough up money for any of these e books and such however.
All the other forums I've found have felt pretty stuffy, like everyone has their necktie on a little too tight. Definitely not feeling that here...
