Your name as a domain name

Curious what people think of this.

I tend to play the 'long game' with online businesses and websites I start. Was thinking of creating a domain that's just myname.com (my full name is only 10 letters, not bad)

These days, I feel like your name is part of your brand. If you're a consultant or salesperson or even a writer/speaker or expert in some type of niche, your name is part of your brand.

I work as a recruiter and I write a lot of articles, blog posts, etc. I trade stocks, I am trying to get into some freelance sales work, etc. So I don't know wtf I'd use the site for. Maybe an online portfolio, or a home base for my consulting biz , or even a blog.

But I'm curious if anyone here uses their name as a domain name, and what their thoughts are on the pros/cons

Ronnie, no freelancer has ever used their name in their domain before...

Nobody that saw a decrease in sales anyways... Not to my best knowledge

I believe having a picture or name people could remember you by helps make a better connection

I think it's also useful because we don't get the opportunity to meet face to face over the internet. Having a picture of yourself behind your brand can be powerful, it's unique and genuine and should help make an easier case for a sale.

Good luck bro

I own the names for my family (wife, me, 2 kids).

Don't use them, but felt the need to own them after the DrewMyers thing went down.

Well, why not? Your name indeed can be a part of your brand, if you make it a part of your brand. You can also forward such a domain to your main SM account (e.g. Linkedin)

I think if you already have some popularity with your name and there are some people who know that you are good in what you do, then having a domain name using your name would be a great option but I am not sure if any newbie should go for such option.

You can have your own name domain, like for youremail@yourdomain.com or anything similar to it.

Getting a domain name with your own name is a good idea , you can secure your name online , maybe you can publish about yourself later, if you are a businessman.

Though there can be a lot of uses, it all depends on you.

You can have your own name as the domain name. The domain can be used as your portfolio and will help people to know about you.

This is kind of About me domain covering your personality, skills, achievements and much more.

You concurred what I had in mind. If you are very popular at what you do, using your name might come as cool and make it easier for your target audience to reach you. Bear in ind though that using your name restrict you to the type of services you can offer. In a way, you could say scalability is near to zero when you use yourt name... Might need to change the name in the future due to Expansion...
