Anytime you buy a site is your information including home address just made available online? I was looking up buying certain domain names and I tried mine just for fun and all my personal information came up in a Google Search. I did it for a friends domain too and sure enough I got their home address there too. I didn't even know this was made public like that.

You can set the Whois info to private. Namecheap and other registrars provide this (for a nominal fee).

I know with GoDaddy you have to pay a small fee. Fee or not, I'd highly recommend it. There are a lot of crazies out there in the internet wilderness.

Yea, I pay the fee with my provider for Domain Privacy Protection. It's such a nominal fee & I prefer paying it over having my personal information out there.

Same here - I pay for the privacy. It used to didn't be that way but when I too did a search I was shocked to find my info out there for anyone to see. Which domain providers offer the privacy protection for free?
