Well, it certainly didn't take Melissa Mayer long. I'm sure this will be a small change in the short-term... but this could end up being devastating for MS/Bing.

Here's the scoop from AllThingsD: Yahoo Set to Use Google's Ad Network for Some Ads - Peter Kafka - Media - AllThingsD

Sources say Google is set to begin running some of its AdSense display ads on Yahoo sites, and will become one of several ad networks Yahoo uses to fill some of its pages.

That means that the two companies will have a relationship similar to the one that Google has with publishers all over the Web: They give Google access to some of their unsold inventory, and Google inserts small ads it runs on behalf of its advertisers.

Today, we’re excited to announce that we recently signed a global, non-exclusive agreement with Google to display ads on various Yahoo! properties and certain co-branded sites using Google’s AdSense for Content and Google’s AdMob services.

Thoughts?

This sounds awesome. In the past Yahoo inventory was only available with an IO and by dealing through a rep. Great for small-medium sized advertisers like myself.

Melissa Mayer

(It's Marissa)

1. Buy YHOO stock. Marissa is extremely driven, and [allegedly] wants to prove a point after being [allegedly] sidelined at Google during her final days, which is in contrast to the early days at Google when she had a high profile job and was dating Larry Page.

2. It is unsold inventory, which means no big brands wanted to advertise there. Until we get clarity about the sites involved, it is hard to figure out whether it is good or bad. One potential area of opportunity will be the mobile ads, which are part of the unsold inventory - many companies don't know how to advertise or what to advertise.
(a) Opportunity to team up with local companies, offering mobile ads
(b) Opportunity to utilize the early low CPC/CPM rates

How do you figure that? Maybe I'm wrong, but if I'm reading correctly Yahoo basically just became Google's biggest Adsense client, and that's it. Yahoo couldn't sell all of its ad inventory, so decided to join the AdSense program, and fill up the available with it. Yahoo doesn't get to choose what specific ads get displayed though. That's still up to Google.

Talk about Google making Yahoo its bitch. "we'll display the ads we say on your sites!" :)

inb4 conflict of interest law suit against Marissa Mayer, and details of the under-the-table deal Google offered her to close this deal are made public.
