Yo,

This is pissing me off because I can't find a straight answer anywhere. For those of you who are smart and focus on other countries outside of the US, perhaps you can help me out and share your experience(s).

If you are targeting a UK based offer and you want to appear well in google.co.uk SERPs, do you need:
1) a .co.uk domain?
2) UK hosting?
3) UK IP?

its only beeen 3 hrs since ur initial post...
u said it urself its a unique question, only so many will be familiar to answer it =P
 
search for something, do they only show .co.uk? no they dont, so you dont need it but it will help when people click "UK only" (thats how it is for the aussie one anyway).
 
You definitely don't need all of these things, but they do help specify your site as a UK based domain and ensure it shows up in the "UK only" searches. It won't get you better rankings in particular, only your content and link quality will do this.

If the .com is available I always buy that whoever I am aiming a site at, mainly because they are easier to remember for type-in traffic.

Although a .co.uk will get you listed in the UK only searches, (like stated above). Oh and keep quiet about the UK, we don't want all these americans waking up and realizing it's wide open over there compared to the US... :)
 
Here`s what I think (from my experience).

If users use google.co.uk and they have search enabled for "the web":

1) Google suggests you do use local TLD (can`t find official link at the moment, sorry) but it holds no significant bearing
2) again, not significant
3) again, no difference

If users use google.co.uk and they have search enabled for "pages from the UK":

1) same although it is recommended to have local TLD
2) a major factor, imo
3) same as above

Also try to get inbound links from local directories/websites/etc cause as far as I know different SE use different methods (IP or link count) to determine where to "file" your site.

You reckon? I was trying to target the UK for some stuff but it's harder to find aff programs and when you take the size of the population into account (and therefore the amount of stupid people!) I think the US can be more profitable and it's definitely easier.

It wouldn't surprise me if Google take other factors into account too... just thoughts but maybe....

The location of sites that link to you?
Whois details? I read somewhere that G definitely archive whois info, so it would seem logical that they would use it in some way as well.
