Some kind of sorcery?

"The effect seems to depend on processing each face in light of the others. By aligning the faces at the eyes and presenting them quickly, it becomes much easier to compare them, so the differences between the faces are more extreme. If someone has a large jaw, it looks almost ogre-like. If they have an especially large forehead, then it looks particularly bulbous."

SPOOKY!!!

Brain Games or Your Bleeped Up Brain (I'm OLD and can't remember which one. LOL) on the Science or Discovery channel did a segment on this.

One of the pictures they used was of Marylin Monroe and I think Abraham Lincoln.

Up close it was Marylin and when they moved it back it was Lincoln.

They did celebs and Clinton too.

Something about how our BRAIN processes visual patterns and how peripheral vision is NOT as detailed as our main focus vision. Hence the pic above giving the DEMON WARP effect when staring at the + in the center and the Pics looking normal when you move your eyes from the + to each individual Pic.

Lulz

It has to do with IQ. People with an IQ below 70 tend to see a blended version of both images.

Paging EMP, science is needed...

You called?

Yes, this is caused by peripheral vision not being the best for face recognition.

So if I present two images (features aligned, so eyes are at the same height on both pictures), the "following" features are amplified.

Example:
When small eyes are followed by big eyes, those are perceived as even larger.

String that together in a series of pictures, and you get the freaky stuff.
