Anyone else get this shit on their iphone/android?

Talk about an easy way to get people up in arms about government intrusion

I don't remember signing up to get loud ass alerts about other people's kids that aren't my problem

lol sucks for you.. i dont keep a cell phone.. once i sell my biggest project, i'm not even coming on computers if i can afford it.... all this government stuff sucks balls

and they try to justify it by saying stupid stuff... that just happens in life. like nobody will never go crazy again in life if they add drones

Tell me about it. A few days ago they called my house late at night for one of these things. 30 minutes later there was a police helicopter hovering directly over my house about 100ft. up, being loud as shit. At first I got all noided out and thought those cops where here to raid me, but then I remembered the kid thing.

The next day I heard from my neighbors that this was all over some young girl that lived a few houses down. Her parents couldn't find her, thought she was missing and called the cops. Turns out she was sleeping under her bed and the dumbfuck parents didn't bother to look there before they called in a search party.

I have an Android with ATT but didn't get any alerts. A bunch of people on my FB newsfeed are talking about it, though.

Scared me pretty good... was in the "zone" chugging away at work when that annoying alert went off.

First time for me on my phone, and it sure was loud and in your face!

Like others said ATT friends got nothing but they did get it on Comcast Cable.

If I was a hacker I'd figure out how to get into the amber alert system and spam amber alerts at 3am regarding a child named Little Johnny Monarch, last seen in the parking lot of the Monarch Call Center talking to a gay webmaster. If you have any info call [1-800 twillio number here that forwards to pewps moms house phone].

we have a silver alert down here (for elderly people getting silly), always thought about pranking someone with it

<------- confused non American

1. In 1996, a kid named Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered. The country gasped of horror.

2. The same year, the Amber Alert was introduced. It's a broadcasting system to alert folks that a kid has been abducted. Everyone is asked to call in with pertinent info if they see the kid or the abductor.

3. Present day: Amber Alerts are largely ignored. (Reasons vary. My opinion: we're desensitized to violence, there have been many false reports, and few of us care that someone else's kid was swiped.)

4. Recently, phone companies decided to work with law enforcement agencies to broadcast Amber Alerts directly to mobiles. Push marketing, if you will. Many mobile owners are angry.

Note: At this point, you may be thinking, "Wait a second. People in the U.S. get lathered up when a single kid goes missing, but are cool with blowing hundreds of innocent kids into countless pieces in other countries?!"

The answer is yes. The U.S. is pretty awesome that way.

I had to turn this off last night because it kept waking me up.

On the iPhone, go to Settings -> Notifications -> Turn off AMBER alerts and/or Emergency Alerts
