Wow Playboy is for sale?

Dear friend: It's not like a garage sale. Most companies are "open to discussions" for the right price.

Business understanding fail. Maybe you should just give up? jk...take it easy
 
Playboy has been having really hard financial issues these past few months :(

They're even selling tickets to once exclusive playboy parties. Heck, look at the top banner "Party at the Playboy Mansion" by azoogle. How do you think they managed that?
 
$145.7 million loss! I can't see them having buyers lining up to take that over!

Internet killed the playmate! Why pay for something that's so easy to get for free.

thats really why they are having hard times. who buys magazines now and days its a dying business model since you can get everything online now

they have way to much compitition online
 
Not just Playboy. Look at any print publication (except maybe the Wall Street Journal) and you'll see the same thing. These guys are the modern version of 18th century scribes after Gutenberg got the printing press working.

The party Azoogle is hosting has nothing to do with Playboy's current financial status. For many, many years people and companies have been able to hold private parties at the Playboy Mansion.

While this may have changed since we did one there in 2004, the cost then was a significant donation to their non-profit foundation - in the order of around $100,000 if I recall correctly. Also, you are required to utilize their catering services for your event, and to pay for a certain number of Playboy models / bunnies to appear. There's no guarantee that Hef will show up (especially given his age) but the last time I was there I did get to meet him and shake his hand.

Don't go thinking that they're making too much bank off of the house. Hef pays rent there out of his pocket which I believe brings them close to breakeven on the operating costs, but that's about it. Aside from the asset appreciation they're not raking in huge dough from it.

That's awesome, I would've assumed it'd be a lot more than 100k. I looked into having Lil Jon perform at a party a little while ago and he wanted 80 just to show up.
 
That pinball machine was off the hook. I miss that one.

Even though I haven't looked at a Playboy in years, the mystique is gone. I can probably rattle off a ton of Playmates from the 80's, I couldn't even tell you who the Playmate of the Year was last year. They got no pub. I think even Victoria's Secret as brand hold more juice than Playboy now.
 
when penthouse went bankrupt in 2003, playboy and hustler should have taken it as a warning shot...unfortunately like most brick and mortar giants with traditional distribution channels their efforts on the web have been lukewarm at best and their throats were slit long ago by web-based companies...that's not to take any credit away from their accomplishments...or to say they still don't pwn...but there's going to be some hurting....

When I go to playboy.com, I see Playboy Magazine on the internet. That's not a pornsite, that's Playboy Magazine on the internet. Except for the fact that it's the Playboy brand, it's totally safesurf material. You give them money, they show you a little skin. Glossy, but still tame. They upsell you videos, glossy tame videos. Not a pornsite. They are competeing against free porn, dude - they should have taken the Playboy brand, slapped it on some glossy free porn, and then upsold the videos etc.

But I get your point. Technically, its a pornsite.

Pretty sure they own a few but I'm at work and can't really look around hehe.
