So I googled myself the other day and sitting on top of the SERPs was this douche with the same name as me from some obscure cult giving a interview of sorts.

That got me thinking, in this day and age where you meet people in the business world and tell them "just google me" you sure as hell don't want this kind of crap to show up first on the results. So would you SEO your name for your personal blog or website? It'd be kind of fun in the vain kind of way, BUT at the same time I can think of a bunch of reasons why it might be a bad idea to do that.

So personally, would you ever do it?

Well, my problem is a very common first and last name, but I'd skip on it anyway.

Branding your name is certainly a good idea if it fits the style you do business. I hate being in the spotlight, I don't want to be known and recognized by many people, I just want my sites and projects to be popular and I stay behind the stage. Since they don't have any personal touch, with a few small exceptions, it wouldn't help me much anyway.

Always fun to surprise people at conventions, hehe.

Depends if I were going to make my name into a brand such as 'john chow' but other wise i wouldn't bother. If i met someone who wanted my details I would hand then a business card.

I stopped checking after the first 50 results in Google. All of them were about me.

i don't have need to use my real name for online business, so i rather remain anonymous online.

I rank first for my last name and first and last name and top 4 pages for my first name lmao

LOL

Actually, I am kinda pissed that my name lists people who have shit to do with me, although it is not that common.

But then, people last week started looking for "inurl:impressum firstname lastname"
And it freaks me out.

I hate how common my name is!
There are 4 of me in the same city I live in. :(
There is an Football Player, Pro Snowboader, Photographer, and even another WF member!
I recently found that there is even a sexual offender in the same state, with the same first middle and last name as me! :(

I have reason why I DO need to SEO for my name...so I have done a bit. :)

I've got a few hundred listings for my full name thanks to using it when mass submitting articles to directories. :error:

It depends if you want to remain anonymous or not :) If you put your name all over the web as you said, it can be good, and it can also be bad, because if any one can "just google" you (the names you use).. then then they have a lot of stuff they can read and learn about you.. :)
