Oh Hai Gaiz -

Doing a free design/development project for a friend just starting out in real estate, I'd like to do a 1-2 page WP Theme to show/search properties in a small area.

Plugin recommendations?
Theme recommendations?

I know there are turnkey solutions out there but neither one of us want to go that way.

I did some interweb research and found things like estate 1.1 but moar just wanted to get WFs opinion.

IDX broker yes will look into the other two now.

the area is about 100k people in population all together.

would love to be able to just throw up a WP theme, add a plugin that posts to a category - but that is only a dream
 
Invest some money in some of the better turnkey solutions. MLS is not something you want to jerk around 100 hours of broken time on. If your "friend just starting out in real estate" has no money (like many real estate agents just starting out), invest yourself, then ask for 15% commission on each web-referral sale. Well worth the up-front cost.
 
Check out the Agent Press child for Genesis if you have some money to spend, it is the best and easiest RE theme out there. For the IDX you will need a vendor to work with. Diverse Solutions, recently bought by Zillow, is the most user friendly if you have never implemented an IDX before.

I agree with Bodhi321, you do not want to go too cheap on a real estate site if you are implementing an IDX solution on it.
 
locality theme over at themeforest looks like exacty what im looking for - thank you so much for the other suggestions, i am looking into those now as well.

i dont want to take any money from him, he is young and I am already a successful business owner so that is not the case
 
I only have experience with IDX Broker, but the software is pretty beast and integrates nicely with Wordpress.

You will need to change your URL structures for the listings though, assuming you're into that sort of thing.
 
he is talking about the idx integration. There will be a separate section for the database properties from most systems.

Usually a folder like /idx/ or /mls/ or something.

PS I have done a site in agentpress and like it. But themeforest has some nice things as well.
 
Theme recommendation for starting a real estate website ? Have you checked PHP real estate script by Eagle scripts ?
