I'm still kind of confused on which to use for what. I'm just going to put my content on pages and then put news and articles on posts.

Yes, that is right. Use pages if it is something you want to be around forever and posts if you are yapping and wanting hits.

For example, if you have a blog about travel, then your regularly updated stories would be posts, but your content about places to stay or travel insurance would be pages.
