Wordpress Headaches

I have been an affiliate for the past 2 years now, and I've always chose to just outsource all design work. Honestly, I'm getting sick of dealing with lazy designers who don't know what a deadline is.

So, I'm taking it upon myself to learn a little something.

I want to be able to create my own wordpress website, hack it up, modify, and make changes when and where I want. What things will I need to learn to be able to do this??? Css? HTML?
