Wow, Ive just set up a new wordpress blog and 2.03 seems to have so many more features than previous versions.

Has anyonehad good experiences (or bad) with the Akismet spam plugin?

Akismet is a must IMO. It catches like 99.9% of my spam for my blogs.

How do you check which version of Wordpress that you have installed? Also, do you know how to update your current installation? Is it worth the trouble?

Agreed with the above. Askimet is great for catching almost all spam.

The easiest way is to click on it in Fantastico in Cpanel, if you have it.

I do have fantastico, but can you update Wordpress with it? I didn't think that you could. I thought that you could add a fresh install.

Yeah, when you click on it, there should be an upgrade button if you are using an outdated version.

Okay, great. I haven't tried Askimet yet, but from all of the glowing reviews I guess I should give it a try.

Another way to figure out what version of Wordpress you have is by logging into the admin section of your blog and just scrolling down to the bottom on that main page (the dashboard) and it should say the version number.

There are easy instruction on the Wordpress site for updates. It is fairly easy. They make it seem harder than it is.

The Wordpress site isn't exactly user -friendly and getting help on the board there is nearly impossible.

I use it for static content sites and it's great. Basically just becuase it's super simple CMS with plenty of templates and features, such as sitemaps.

Good, I get lots of spam on older blogs that really put me off posting. Now I will just upgrade and see how I go.

For the curious, this release includes:

• Small performance enhancements
• Movable Type / Typepad importer fix
• Enclosure (podcasting) fix

No, not really. It also doesn't sound like it's worth the hassle of an upgrade at this point.

I was using 1.5.2 before; there is quite a bit of difference from that release, I think
