So im looking at the SitePoint Marketplace seeing if theres anything I might be interested and I run across this in the Premium Sales Section.
SocialSomething.com - $15,000/mo. - 5,000,000 visitors/mo.
So ok SocialSomething.com, I look it up and it looks like it was made by a 12 year old with a free php script so I get suspicious then, I look up the Alexa ranking and I see its around 200,000 and yet this punk thats selling it wants a minimum bid of $25,000 and a winning bid of $87,000? and not only this but he says this site gets 1 million unique visitors a month. HAH!
Also the domain was registered in February 2007 when this punk says the site launched in November 06 and looking at the Alexa ranking, what miserable traffic this site has only picked up in April.
I guess my question really is how do people think they can pull these things off? Who do these people think they are fooling?
Things like these really turn off potential investors and reminded me why I tend to stray away from online marketplaces. Potential sellers please dont overhype your sites or lie.
