Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior

What a great way to raise a robot.
I'd sooner have drowned my daughter at birth than bring her up like that.

That article is so repugnant to anyone who knows the first thing about child psychology that if it was posted on a forum instead of the WSJ I'd call troll.

It does show how adult behaviour reflects childhood - authoritarian parenting as a national trend = authoritarian government. Asian-style education produces kids who are very hardworking and "clever", but lack true creativity. My wife sees it all the time in biotech.

All the Chinese researchers do is rip off what the Europeans and Americans have done, there is very little true innovation from there.

The first few lines put me off. Who would do something as retarded as that. Have an open mind for God's sake! I've hear a lot of shit about China and I'm grateful that we have some kind of culture and heritage to fall back upon. They're all pretty much robots if you ask me, emotionless creatures. =/

Interesting article, I guess the Mihn Supenusenphone (spelling?) character from King of the Hill was pretty dead on.

That's pretty good... other than the fact that they've completely forgotten the whole purpose of hard work. For me anyway the purpose is to get more money to pay for more fun. They've left out the fun factor, which pretty much negates the whole purpose, making them complete idiots. They are just churning out more rats for the big race. At least we'll still have plenty of people to make toys for our happy-meals.

Oh, plus they left out this part of the story:
Suicide rates up among Chinese urban men - People's Daily Online

I dunno, it'd be pretty rad being able to call my daughter "garbage", only to have her applaud me for it years later ;-)

On a serious note, this type of parenting will BACKFIRE without serious community/social support. I knew a girl in high school whose father was old school Chinese. He was really hard on her -- and probably meant well. She figured out there her friends' didn't have to deal with the same stuff and she eventually moved out and worked as a stripper.

Yeah. I'm Oliver James, Bitch.

look at all you emotional babies up in here. This is why china will rule the world in 20 years. They know that there is better shit to do than to watch MTV all day. They are advancing their nation with education now that they can finally afford it, while most americans sit at home watch TV and contribute nothing to society.

They are hard working people and its paying off. It may not be the greatest most glorious lifestyle for them, But they will get there chance to live the good life once they become the top dog while we sit here in america twiddling our thumbs.

In many ways she's right. Western parents give their children way too much freedoms, don't push them enough and are way to considerate when it comes to their feelings. Western parents are also way to accepting when it comes to being fat, smoking, drinking etc. If your daugther gets fat, tell her that she's getting fucking fat and needs to diet. If she doesn't, MAKE her. She(or he) should have no say when it comes to such things. Nothing but straight A's should ever be accepted. Letting them do whatever they want makes them lazy fucks that will almost surely fail in life. But as Motivated said, it can backfire...

This.

America was built on the backs of slaves then factories.

China is doing the same, but with self-discipline.

Learn your mandarin while you're young guys.

You see, you've just pointed out the difference w/out even knowing it. America, and every big company in America was built on the backs of someone else. We don't do shit ourselves, we delegate.

That's why the United States became a super power in 200 years, and it's taken China thousands. And even still, China is where it's at today, simply because we've delegated all of our work to them. And they may think they have us by the balls by doing all of our work for us, but just when they start to squeeze, we just start delegating elsewhere, like India.

It doesn't matter how book-smart you are, you have to have some common sense. When I was working for Motorola, I took several trips over to China to help them to understand our software. And I swear, they were all extremely smart, but not one of them (that I worked with) had any common sense. It was like working w/ a bunch of Raymonds from Rain Man. Extremely smart, but you had to help them buy their underwear.

Like a puppet... that doen't know what to do until directed properly......

I've read the long article... agree with both points, giving the best of the best for your kids but not in the way of teaching my kid to be "my personal slave" and that she is in debt from me for a lifetiime....

china is the worlds factory. i don't think there's anything to applaud in being raised as a robot. sure they are ultra efficient, but who cares? i like being raised in an environment where i truly have free will to do what i want, believe what i want, etc. maybe im not the most efficient, maybe there are days where i don't contribute so much to society (ok, like every day pretty much, but i digress), but who cares? you only live once man why would you want to live as a robot?

My parents were like this, but it didn't work. I'd go sleep in my tree house in 20 degree weather. They failed, and now I'm an interwebs degenerate.

But, as was said above, this is the very reason why china will own our souls in 20 years or less.
