Please keep these factors in mind

Price
Quality of features
Quality of support
Problems/downtimes

The Planet. I use servermatrix (a branch of lower end The Planet). I've been through about 8 hosts in my time. They are the best I've come across, and I've been with them about 2 years.

Check out www.webhostingtalk.com and read the reviews. There's a section for dedicated servers.

I second this forum as well. It's all depends on how much you can afford and what you are looking for? You want top notch reliable? rackspace.. but minimum price for starting is at $400/month.

There are many people at webhostingtalk who bought big servers and willing to make a deal with you. Highly recommend!

Yep. Same here. I wouldn't recommend anyone else. We use ServerMatrix to host this forum, and it's always been fast as hell with no downtime (crosses fingers).

I've been hosting with a company out of Texas called Jaguar PC (http://www.jaguarpc.com) formally aletia.com

I've been with them for roughly 8 years and haven't ever had any problems that they couldn't get under control within 1 hour. The prices are fair.

I will also take this opportunity to say this, while we're on the subject of hots.
I recently tested out netfirms.com because they boast one of the largest hosting networks in the entire US and their prices are amazingly low. However l have never in my life hosted with a worse company! The pages seem to be fine if you don't need to utilize php includes, and/or sql database(s). However l do (don't most of us?) -- l suffered from my header/footers not begin included on roughly 30% of my page loads. Images wouldn't load up a good percentage of the time as well... at least 30 minutes of every day any page that accesses an sql database would be locked out (due to max_server_connections errors).

and of course these problems didn't start happening until after the "30 money back blah blah blah"...

So l wrote tech support... and wrote tech support...and wrote tech support.
I even made a 20 minute long distance call to their tech department only to be told to open another ticket.

You never get a real person responding to you when you open a ticket, every single time it was a ready made "we're sorry -- there was a problem but it's fixed now" email. I honestly could go on and on and on....

Stay away from netfirms.com by all means.

Softlayer is great. They are former ThePlanet techs. I did my resaerch, chose them and I am very happy.

LayeredTech always has some great deals running in the Dedicated Server Offers forum at WHT. Definitely check them out- Ive been with them since December 2005 and have nothing but good things to say

If you're considering layeredtech or softlayer, take a look at server4sale. They resell the two companies and oftentimes you can get a better deal through them. You also get some support as well which is often nice to have. I've only had a server with them a month or so but so far it's been positive.
