My recommendation is always "get the best name that fits your site's content that you can afford". If you can afford it, then try to find your name in the best extension (.com if you are in the US, your local ccTLD if you are elsewhere). If you get a good name in a relevant extension, then it will be a good investment even if you stop blogging in a month.
Other good names are YourFirstName + s + Blog.com (AndrewsBlog.com for example) or if you are doing video blogging, you can try to find out who owns YourName.TV or YourNameTV.com
.ME isn't bad, but it's not really time tested like .COM.
