Just starting to find out about Affiliate marketing, been doing some research on it for about a week. I'm really stuck on trying to find a niche, and a company that has an affiliate program that I can join. Basically I made this thread to see if anyone can give some tips for the absolute beginner, or tell me how they started out with AM. Thanks.

The best advice I can give you is keep lurking and reading in the other forums, and seek out and read some of the better blogs that can be found here by some of the senior members. "ImagesAndWords" profitapolis.com is excellent as is "Dchuk"s writing. Search out "Deliguy"s blog as well- good stuff there.

Don't forget NickyCakes blog. He has a great newbie guide. Currently getting a database error but it will be back up shortly I presume.

Read enough to get you started in the right direction and then GET STARTED. I did way too much reading when I got into it. Also, I would suggest you join a network and not deal with a company directly. Most networks have great affiliate managers that will be a tremendous help.

pick any niche that you think you can write about / build stuff around without getting too bored or you'll be abandoning the project very soon.
Maybe something about a hobby, a sport or anything else that you like.
Finding affiliate programs shouldn't be a problem.
Don't go with extremely competitive niches ( example: web hosting, insurance, financial etc...)

Read the Site sitesell.com. Then Try to Find Ken Evoys. Affiliate Master's and How to write. It's for free which will guide you in every way you think it can do.

It basically tells you to pick a niche which you have BIG knowledge of. It makes the writing much more easier and no more compilations of any kind. He will give you what to think and what to do to find your very first Niche and everything else ofcourse. Though I disagree to 1-2% of his writing all else is a golden nugget.

hey Evan good luck!

Just pick something and start playing around with it. Build some sites out, run some campaigns. The niche really doesn't matter (as long as people are spending money in it) its action that matters. It helps to find something that your interested in or knowledgeable about but its not required.

Once you find one learn everything you can about it and put it into action and stick with it. A lot of people expect instant results (it doesn't work like that) this takes time, effort and energy and more than anything commitment. Once you start to build a system you can branch out into other niches.

Thanks for all the help guys, really good stuff here. Does anyone recommend "clickbank" for a beginner, or has anyone had a negative experience with it, I went on their site and saw they had a lot of products to market.

Best advice i can give u is just jump right in. U r gonna need hosting... so cross that off your list. Throw some shit at the wall and see what sticks.

"Getting started" is a loose term, I've learned. I've been at it for a few months and have only made minor progress. However, I do feel that I've learned A TON in that time. I get the feeling that I'm almost there everyday, and that's what keeps me motivated. My best advice to you is to have a nice sized budget that you're ready to lose. You're going to use this money to learn how things work. If you don't have a budget, then start saving. Do whatever you can to get that budget - write content, mow lawns, shovel snow, clean shit, or use whatever skills you have to bring in the cash.

Take out your credit cards.

Join top affiliate networks.

Pick random offers that convert.

Master a source of traffic.

Optimize until you're profitable.

Lose money.

Repeat till you come out profitable.

exactly. pick niche/pick traffic/build campaigns ----> see what works. not really rocket science, just start building.

Don't get discourage when you lose money just keep playing with stuff until it works.

Look at what others are doing and try and build on top of that- don't steal campaigns, but use other's ideas as inspiration for your own ideas.

Clickbank is a pretty good spot to start at if you don't have much experience yet to join the CPA networks. And yes, conversions are much better with cpa but you can stuff your wallet easily with clickbank if you know what you are doing.

If you don't know much about selling on clickbank yet, I suggest that you find 2 or 3 offers you might be interested in that shows potential and then find out EXACTLY WHO wants that product and sell it to them.

When you have your offer in front of the right market, money will pour out into your wallet like water.

looking at bluehost to start my website, any negative experiences with them or better web hosting sites i should look at instead? I'm going to be using wordpress.

I have never tried bluehost, they're the same company as hostmonster.

I have noticed few times that websites on bluehost took longer to load but I bet that, as for any other company, this is probably due to the load of the server you're on, and not on the company.

I couldn't tell if they overload servers more than other companies.

if you are absolute beginner I highly recommend you to watch some videos about affiliate marketing, read different blogs about it, search around this and other forums, but don't let it take to much time, pick any niche on amazon or clickbank, open bloggers blog and start playing with it, copy/paste/change text, do some backlinking... soon things will come on their place and you'll know how to do it on your own, now invest some money in domain, content, backlinks and you are in.

don't loose faith, don't be disappointed with no results on beginning, you'll need some time to learn how, but that's one time investment

good luck.

A) Using Google's keyword tool, find a niche that gets traffic, but isn't terribly competitive.
B) Find a product to promote in that niche from Amazon, Clickbank, or a CPA network.
C) Build website around product.
D) Drive links to website to get ranked.
E) Get ranked, get paid.

Getting your website ranked will teach you a lot about SEO. Stick with it and you'll figure it out.
