Where do you guys see the industry of affiliate marketing, internet advertising, etc.. in the next 5/10 years.

It is almost impossible to tell.

As the general public is gaining confidence in buying things over the internet, seems like revenue could increase.

As the generation that grew up without computers starts to die, the average user will be more tech intelligent, and might not click ads as much.

Adblock might be a standard in every new browser.

Google could lose dominance, replaced by another search engine. Google could wash away, or go down to 30% market share in search engines.

What do you guys think?

Is this industry stable enough to make a career out of?

Advertising isn't going anywhere. The level of spending on digital media will only increase once print finally throws in the towel. You reference intelligent users and adblockers, but I think it's a mistake to think that current standards of digital advertising will still obtain in 10 years in the same form. You just need to adapt to the ever changing environment. I mean, digital advertising is still in it's infancy; I'm personally excited to see the industry grow and change.

Google will determine what you are in the mood to buy that day. If you don't buy it you don't get to do the googles.

Online marketing isn't going anywhere; it's only going to get bigger. I always thought my generation would be smarter than the one before it but they're stupider and spend more money when they have less of it.

^that.

Just because you "grew up" with computers doesn't exclude you from being a retard.

Technology will change - but human nature will remain relatively the same.

technology predictions are nothing more then a fools dream, or a smart mans invention

Yep. Look at all the people that have their accounts hacked/phished every day.

As long as some people are still having trouble getting laid, there will be money to be made in every market and niche imaginable - especially on the Internet where things can be more "anonymous", and hopefully remain that way to some extent.

People will still be fat and want to lose weight. People will still want to make money from home. People will still have fear of not having a girlfriend and go to dating services of some kind. People will still need car/life/etc insurance.

Will the World last that long? If yes then I think affiliate marketing won't be far from the place in where it's now, except it will be more advanced (better and new tools) centralized (there will be more bigger programs that will eat smaller with time) and controlled (govs will want to bite more, as always).
