What the hell is this?

An aquatic specialist from the DOW confirmed that what the camera had discovered was actually a Bryozoan, a primitive life form that, as a species, is over 350 million years old.

The Bryozoans are collections of smaller organisms that filter food out of the water supply, and they are an extremely primitive "animal" life form.

ohhhh

I heard these were Tubiflex, not Bryozoan. They are worms that live in sediment, since there's no sediment in the pipe they cling together. Anytime one moves, they all move. It's just a big ball of worms..

They are clumps of annelid worms

Official answer from a Dr. Timothy S. Wood who is an expert on freshwater bryozoa and an officer with the International Bryozoology Association.

Thanks for the video – I had not see it before. No, these are not bryozoans! They are clumps of annelid worms, almost certainly tubificids (Naididae, probably genus Tubifex). Normally these occur in soil and sediment, especially at the bottom and edges of polluted streams. In the photo they have apparently entered a pipeline somehow, and in the absence of soil they are coiling around each other. The contractions you see are the result of a single worm contracting and then stimulating all the others to do the same almost simultaneously, so it looks like a single big muscle contracting. Interesting video.

Mystery solved, and for some reason I thought it was a bunch of creatures acting in harmony when I saw it. Pretty cool though.

I read an official statement about this from the Umbrella Corporation. They said there is no cause for alarm. You guys are overreacting.

Thanks Zimok, you just ruined everyone of my Akira fantasies, except for abusing anti-missile laser satellites... now excuse me, I have some solar panel and lens crafting companies to dump VC into.

*runs off trailing nerd tears*

Power awaits H.J., have faith!

Takashi: It was too difficult for Tetsuo... of course, too difficult for us. And for Akira
Masaru: We just didn't have the power.
Kiyoko: But someday we will be...
Masaru: Because we have already begun.
