Hello, I have been reading these forums for a few weeks and Im ready to try out some affiliate marketing. The first thing I would like to get into would be setting up some ebay stores with phpbay. I want to start with about 3 right now but in the future I would like to set up a bunch more.
Now for my question, Im ready to purchase a webhost but Im not sure what i should be looking for since this is all new to me. should I be looking for shared, reseller, or vps? Wich will be better for what Im looking for and how much storage, bandwith and other important things should i be looking for? Well thanks in advance, love the forums and cant wait to get my feet wet in affiliate marketing.

Yea, stick with Shared for now. It's not like you'll be getting enough traffic to overload your servers or anything. If later on you need to upgrade, you always can.

Go for shared hosting for sure. Dreamhost is pretty good if you're going to be running a bunch of sites and you're just a beginner. In the future you may need better but DH should be more than adequate for now. Search around for a coupon code for cheap hosting.

thanks everyone, shared hosting it is. I was ready to get shared hosting for the past couple of days but I thought I would ask so as to not waist money.

Shared is easiest on you; at the risk of being a spamming douchebag I set up a special on my site for Wicked members that you might find useful (see sig.)

In the interest of contributing more than spamming douchebagness to the thread, as soon as you start to scale one of the first things you should consider doing is getting onto VPS or even dedicated for your sites. Keep things that you plan on flipping on shared since it's easier to transfer, but stuff that you plan on keeping for the long term needs to be on the best machine you can handle (handle, technically and financially.)

You might also look into getting a reseller account somewhere, since you can set up multiple shared accounts and then simply partition it off if you sell a site down the line.

My shared server could not handle PHP bay. I agree shared is the best way to start. I just made the move to dedicated hosting and am waiting for my accounts to be moved over. Also with shared hosting my IP was blacklisted by several ISP's dues to other users on my server sending out spam. Host also oversell the space and bandwidth on a shared server.

Many hosts oversell, that's true.

With whom were you hosting? It actually sounds like you had more problems than what should be expected.
