What is WAP in various WAP offers I saw?

My guess is that they are some sort of html for mobile.

But that doesn't make sense.

Modern mobile phones use the same HTML that the web browser uses.

I don't think those offers are for nokia phone.

So what is it?

How the hell I am still seeing WAP offers?
