What is considered a hub site?

hub pages is just a Web 2.0 page. I consider "hub" to be the center of everything and it probably comes from link wheel terminology.
A hub site is definitely different than "hubpages" as you can see above. It is probably referencing what a lot of people call your "Money site" it is what everything else points to indirectly in your link building and marketing efforts. It is probably the site you are actually promoting for the sake of making income on it.

yah, completely agree. further, obtaining links from hub sites can be very beneficial for your search engines rankings as hub sites are seen as somewhat of an authority on a given topic, and by definition they are quite generous at providing links to other websites, it is often quite easy to get links from hub sites.
Depending on where you heard the term, it could mean different things. The most traditional meaning is a broader site you own that links out to lots of smaller niche sites you own, and maybe they link back or you use some scheme to get 3 way links out of it.
That stuff isn't a good idea anymore though. Years ago you could inflate rankings that way but now you get so much more benefit out of developing one more broadly targeted authority site.
