What hosting service is good for Magento e-commerce site?

how big is your site? If you are hosting thousands of products, get a dedicated server.
You might be able to work with a cloud server or a VPS if you are just starting out.
Also, if you HAVE to ask a question like this, check out Magento GO since they do a lot of the development work for you.
Magento is a pain in the ass IMO since it was written by Russians and most of the documentation is in Russian.

Most hosts nowadays have no issue with Magento, so most any will work fine.
It's more about support than anything else. Look for web hosts with verified testimonials and security focus is a good start (instead of breasts and fancy sales pitches), like Has anyone heard of TVCNet?

If it's going to be a huge site, I would go dedicated. Otherwise you really can't go wrong in what you choose as long as you stick with the more well known hosts.
I see, thanks for your replies. I checked StartLogic, but they cannot host Magento. I don't have too many products - a few hundred.

we used hostgator on a fairly small magento store and it was pretty damn slow. it was shared. moved to cloud and use a content delivery network for images and it is much much faster. worth the extra $35/mo.
