What do you use to research?

One thing I lack in when it comes to launching new campaigns is the research information behind the product like the demographic. I use things like alexa and what not to see if theres any demographic info but to be honest there info is probably far from accurate so I rarely rely on it.

What I'm wondering is if there is any sites, tools or what ever that will give you good demographic information about certain areas and niches. I've tried looking into marketing research for certain stuff and the information is always locked up and can cost couple thousand dollars just to access it.

I've asked AM's about it to see if they have any info, but its touchy on what they can share apparently.

I've thought about reaching out the companies behind the products themselves but it usually comes back to asking an AM for some sort of way through the back door so i dont have to jump through hoops calling the company directly and trying to get them to understand what exactly im doing and if its even possible they would share info with me.

I am surprised this kind of info isn't available for people to download on each campaign, but anyway. Is there a site out there that I don't know about? Doesn't even have to relate to AM, just some sort of market research I can look through and work with?

Not that its hugely accurate, but I take it you've used the usual stuff like compete and quantcast? Personally I find Google adplanner pretty accurate demographically on the stuff I own, and it has the added benefit of being free. Might not be detailed enough for what you want but may be worth a look: https://www.google.com/adplanner

Yea i've looked at compete and quantcast and its pretty much the same thing. I've never heard of adplanner though. It is like alexa and quantcast, but since its from google I think I can trust the info a little more. Thanks for the link, much appreciated. And yea I'm still looking for something a little deeper.

If anyone knows where to get those market research studies that would also be great especially the behavior studies. I tried looking around for torrents but didn't find any luck. Guessing not too many people read those outside of big businesses.

Try a local university near you. Just by some chance they may do statistics on marketing demographics. Could be part of an MBA corriculum.

Have you tried quantcast? It's not the most accurate tool out there but it's free and it gives a general idea.

I know this may not be the best but when I do demographic research for POF I use their demographic research tool. I mean if the users are putting this into their profile then I would like to think that it is viable research information giving that POF has a ton of traffic. This information is coming directly from their site from users which is in the millions.
