What do you guys think about BigCommerce?

I learned about BigCommerce a few years ago through a client but it's almost never talked about - and if it is I always hear people trash talk it 'because it's not shopify'

I've seen BC evolve over the years to a pretty solid platform. On paper there are some things that make it look better than shopify.

Does anyone here have experience with both platforms? Is Shopify that much better? Is BC really that bad?
 


Honestly, it could use some work. I've done jobs for them from time to time and it can be challenging to achieve good conversion numbers, to be honest. It can help when you have good traffic but that really means targeted traffic. I tend to get mine from a mix bag of sources from organic and those like fiverr or webtrafficgeeks. However, even with that strategy, it can be a struggle to get results with bigcommerce.

You find it to be lower converting than shopify? Why do you think that is? Is it the checkout flow?
 
If you compare it apples-to-apples with Shopify, BigCommerce would appear to be the inferior platform. But it is by no means useless, you would just have to put in the extra work in order for you to get good results. My personal analogy is that Shopify is WordPress, and BigCommerce is Joomla, or even Drupal.

What exactly makes it an inferior platform? Or better question where would you need to put exta effort into BC to get good results?
 
I think Bigcommerce is one of Shopify’s strongest competitor if you’re just starting a business. This platform was built with hundreds of features that can save you much money unlike Shopify.
