hello,
i am currently working on a webhosting provider list. what hosting provider do you consider as tops of the industry????

perhaps you can help me to add some other providers. the hosting should allow multidomain hosting, offer more than 1gb space, 100 gb traffic and should not cost more than $10 per month.

...

perhaps you can tell me what you think about my list and give me some suggestions:

1)hostgator - 100gb - 1000gb traffic - $9.99
2)dreamhost - 145gb - 1456gb traffic - $9.99
3)crucialwebhost - 250gb - 2500gb traffic - $9.99
4)hostican - 500gb - unmetered traffic - $11.95
5)icdsoft - 20gb - 40gb traffic - $10.00

i am collecting information about your hosting experiences with these hosting companies. or do you think that there should be other providers added to the list??? please post your opinions.

thx for the help

Over all shared hosting sucks...

dreamhost blows, their control panel sucks

hostgator is good if you don't run page generation scripts, they will suspend your ass in a second.

The others ones I haven't used, but stay away form servage.net slow as shit

JaquarPC is like hostgator good for legit sites, sucks for anything useful.

Wish I had one I could recommend for you I use about 4 different hosts and all are far from perfect. If you want real hosting go dedicated then you are in a different class altogether.

1) hostgator (for shared hosting, largest reseller of thePlanet, IPs just $2 each)
2) thePlanet (aquired ev1servers, leader in dedicated servers now i think)
3) mediatemple.net (only for servers, their grid didn't work for a friend of me)

..all other hosts i know -and i tried really a few - are either
- a) limited in features (no addon domain etc etc)
- b) just smaller resellers or startups ( i dont like to be betatester )
- c) too expensive and/or just oversell

..i'll would definitly go with larger hosts who maintain their own datacenters
and also don't ask you for SSL cert to get more then 10 dedicated IPs. Most resellers even have to wait for their own support tickets if their servers go down.. but for corporate/clients project i'd rather go with small but expensive business hostings.. i don't know alot though.

All Plesk (on windows) & WHM/cpanel reseller hostings can be great though if the admin is someone you know and does his job well.

hmm, how to participate here if my posts get deleted?

It's just because your relatively new and have a low post count. So, your posts get put in moderation and need to be approved before they are visible to the forum. This is to help keep down the spam.

1)hostgator - 100gb - 1000gb traffic - $9.99

Not too bad - Just watch the sites if you start dumping heavy traffic / spam

2)dreamhost - 145gb - 1456gb traffic - $9.99

They suck balls

3)crucialwebhost - 250gb - 2500gb traffic - $9.99
4)hostican - 500gb - unmetered traffic - $11.95
5)icdsoft - 20gb - 40gb traffic - $10.00

Never used these three

I'm very new here, but I have to post this
HawkHost.com is m**f** crap, stay away as far as can - the support, billing and basic manners don'y exist, and arrogance overwhelming...

in defense of dreamhost, i'm too much of a noob to know if they suck or not but i can tell you i'm not paying anywhere near 9.99 ... i paid 2 years up front and with a 97 dollar coupon i end up paying less than 4 bucks a month. so there.

hostgator is my host at the moment and I love it, really
support is good etc

I have used hostingzoom and they were fine, a bit of downtime here and there, but support was ok almost always

I have an account with powweb, they haven't sent me any notice when I got some days with 40.000 pageviews so they're ok, but their support sucks (at least the last time I used it some months ago)

Are you gonna promote the hosting companies?
Hostgator converts well in my experience. Dreamhost not bad too, but I hate thier web-based control panel.
If you are promoting them, just focus on the ones that converts well, ignore their reliablity because generally all shared hosting sucks.

Get a vps if you're getting a host for personal use.

I'm switching from hostgator , need to find webhost too. most important is monthly payment (if you read most web host clause they can shut down your account anytime), if you pay 1-2 years upfront, they can claim spamming (even if you didn't ) and shut down the account. Hard to find good budget hosts, looking for one that don't have strict rules, there are some rare ones that are good, but haven't find them yet :)
