What are your opinions on hosts providing free domain names?

Yes, after some time I came to the point it is better to keep domains with reliable registrars separately from hosting! I prefer Namecheap and Godaddy!
 
I have read so many horror stories about hosts that end up keeping the domains when the customer leaves. The fine print always gets them.
 
Definitely do it separately. If you get it from a host you're just adding a middleman to the chain and a lot of hosts will hold the domain hostage until you've been with them for a certain amount of time.
 
8 bucks bro.. save yourself the trouble.

i am currently going through hell dealing with midphase who apparently use enom as their domain provider. Everything is safely with godaddy and can transfer in 1hr if needed. That domain is precious... has over 40 typeins a day. :) Otherwise i wouldnt give a fuck
