:485:I'm brand new to affiliate marketing. I'm in law school and have a full time summer job, but i'm free in the evenings and I'd love to be able to earn a little extra cash. To be clear, I operate no websites and I have no affiliate relationships. I understand the concept of AM, but I don't know where to start. I do not have any programming experience.

I can invest $400.00 total to start, and I can devote about 3 hours/day to the business.

Can someone share a good book or guide to get me started? I need to learn everything, including the very basics. Thanks.

What makes you think that you can do in your spare time what people here do full time?

I suggest reading around a bit on your own and coming back when you have an actual specific question to ask. There are a million different approaches you can take to start in this business, and no one is going to be able to give you a definitive 'here's how you get started' guide.

Also keep in mind that you have practically no time, no budget, and no knowledge in an increasingly competitive landscape. If you're here with a "get rich quick" mindset, you may want to reconsider.

It all depends on what you want to do exactly. You could look around here for information or simply Google anything you have a question about.

Thanks people. My question was definitely too vague so I've tried to focus it a lot more. And no, I'm not looking for a get rich quick thing - I've never believed in those. I'm looking to spend about 3 hours a day working on this, and hopefully by the end of summer I can turn a small profit and keep working on it. I'd love to supplement my income, and believe it or not I'll have more time to spend on it once law school starts up again in the fall.

Here are my preliminary questions:

What sort of hosting solution should I use to get started and use tracking202? The VPS from beyondhosting would be fine im sure, but is there something more economical than $40/month? if not thats fine, I just wanna make sure I'm not blowing more money than i should.

What is the best way to get my landing pages made? I know NOTHING about website design. Is there a cost-efficient way to hire someone or another way to go about doing this? Is there a good, basic web design tutorial for photoshop?

Are there any affiliate networks that offer free landing page design?

What should I try to promote first?

Thanks everyone. I'm actually very excited just to get one campaign going - thats the goal.

This, in my eyes, is not a part time job. I started with double full time in the beginning when I first started media buying. I know a lot of people that go to school and stuff, but for me it was def. full time.

Thanks. 3 more questions por fav:

1) How much should I invest in my first campaign (ad buying)?

2) What ads should I buy / how should I advertise?

3) can you recommend any good affiliate networks?

At the very least you'll be able to be your own lawyer when you become a full time affiliate after law school is over, and all your landers will be compliant. Good luck bro

No joke, learning how to market my own practice is the biggest reason I want to get into this now. I want to supplement my income while in school/summer positions and be good at it in 2 years when I graduate.

Jumping into affiliate marketing is actually fairly simple. What I would suggest is signing up for a few merchants via Commission Junction and with Amazon Associates. Think about niches you are interested in and knowledgeable in.

For example, if you are knowledgeable about fishing and fishing tackle, purchase a cheap hosting plan with any number of hosting providers. Although I'm typically in the minority, I've never had a problem with GoDaddy. Purchase hosting and a domain that's related to fishing and install WordPress on it. Most hosts include a control panel to do so easily.

Once your site is setup, install a WordPress theme related to fishing. There are tons of free themes (Google them). You can then provide your own opinions (or reviews) of different fishing gear and collect commissions for referring people to CJ merchants or Amazon. Since I'm very successful with Amazon, I'm partial to them.

This, of course, is all easier said than done but adding product reviews via WordPress is easy once you learn how to do them.

See you in a month.

I think learning all about IM with the intentions of marketing your Law services is very smart. Just keep at it... this shit isn't easy..

One thing that may help you determine if your're wasting your time or not is if your the kind of person that can obsess over something? I am, and I'm still making chump change compared to most.. but it's going up every month, along with my skill set.

I can definitely obsess over certain things - namely things that give me a bit of a rush or things that I'm just plain interested in. I already know that I wanna open up my own shop when I graduate (cuz fuck working 70+ hour weeks making 160k/year - what a fucking miserable existence), and I wanna pack my day selling legal products, not services.

It takes an attorney 1 hour or less to prepare a full trust - every document, and they sell the product for $1,200-$2k+. Full incorporation/business formations take less than 30 min to complete and are sold from $900 - $1500. If I could make 2 sales a week I'd be making more than most of my classmates who will be slaving away for a 3 week vacation a year. and id be my own boss, make my own schedule, own my own office, retain my own clients etc.

thanks for all the help so far.
