I read in the sales thread for viScript, when it was being sold on the sitepoint forums, that he sold a license to someone to resell the script under a different brand.

Am I wrong?

I hate to break it to you, but yes. I wrote the script from scratch myself. After I saw ViScript up for sale, I decided to get into the market. There are actually a few scripts similar to this on the market now.

One of the main differences between my script and ViScript is that my script is automated with an actual cron/task scheduler system.

I believe ViScript uses an automation system coded into the actual PHP code of the script. You will set up the automation directly in the WordPress admin panel. If your automation job is set to run once per hour, it will not actually run once per hour - it will run when WordPress is actually loaded. If WordPress goes without a page load for two hours, you will get unexpected behavior.

With my script, you have to set up an actual cron job or, on Windows, a scheduled task. This is easy to do, and I will do it for you if you can't figure it out. This will ensure the automation process actually runs on the dot, on time, every time. However, this means you can only set up part of it in the WordPress admin panel.

One is not better than the other, they are just different. Take your pick... I think ViScript is a very high quality script.

Other than that one thing - they provide very similar functionality.

Thank you for the explanation. I do not like the way ViScript does its 'automated stuff' either. I can't actually get it to post more then one video either, if I select 2,3,4,5 it doesnt post anything.

I wouldn't mind trying your script sometime on one of my sites, I'm running 6-7 automated sites now, and from the way you described yours, it is better.

hey :)

i have viscript and run it on a couple of blogs so far. i really like the script, but one thing i'm having a rough time with is that the posts it puts up don't trigger other plugins i have set up to run functions every time a post is published (most importantly, Auto Social Poster). I know the problem isn't with the other plugins because when i manually publish a post they are triggered.

have you tested your script with other plugins that are of the "this plugin's function gets triggered when a new post is published" variety?

because if it works with that, i will get it.

ps - and i would still use viscript to populate metacafe and yahoo videos for variety, so that wouldn't even be wasted money! lol
 
Sorry for the slow reply. My main computer is being repaired by HP.

I don't know whether it works or not. Would you like a free copy of the script so you can test it out? All that's required on your part is to let me know what plugins it works with and if there are any compatibility issues.

Does your script work with the latest version of WP? ViScript doesn't but apparently there's an update in the works. I'm not particularly happy with VS but I'm waiting to see about this update, if they ever get it done.

As it is now, with VS, I can only grab videos from a couple of the listed video sites, not all of them... even if I revert back to an older version of WP. Does your program work with ALL the video sites?

I notice on your example blog that there are no comments posted with the videos. I see on your sales page where you say it pulls in comments, just like VS. So, what's the deal with the comments? Does it work or not?
 
Digitalman, if there's a reason I should give it to you free (you're going to test it out with a certain plugin and will be getting back to me with the results, you're only using it for the purposes of posting a review somewhere and after that you'll be deleting it, etc.) then yes. Otherwise, no.

It works with the latest version of WP.

My script is only compatible with MetaCafe and YouTube. I didn't bother with the other video sites. I may in the future if there's enough demand.

It posts comments IF the video has comments. My demo is pulling very recent videos, so very few will have lots of comments.
