California, soon to be NY!
are there any penalties in the SEO aspect of purchasing a .us domain as oppose to a .com.... does google penalize or place a lower value on .us over .coms??

again i'm just wondering from an SEO point of view.... we all know .com is the best.

thanks and appreciate any advice.

.us domains suck they are not as professional as .com

Fucking learn to read

OP: this has been asked a million times, I dont think there are penalties. I would assume there are even less if you are targeting US.

It is very simple:

If you are targeting the global search market then use a generic TLD: .org, .net, .com, .info these are appropriate for each country.

If you are targetting one country in particluar in can sometimes be beneficial to use a the country TLD for example: .us or .co.uk they will definitely do no harm.

But be careful using a .ws, .tv or .me which may sound generic but is in fact a country TLD so may sometimes not be be popular in US search engines.

Search engines move in unpredictable ways so most people get a .com just to be sure, however it is often better to get a less popular TLD if it means you can the right keywords for your SEO campaign.
