Updating Old Posts on Blogs

Hi,

Didn't know where to ask this, so I thought this area would be appropriate.

To you Wordpress/blog pros out there:

Are you finding any SEO/ranking benefit to occasionally updating or refreshing your older blog posts?

Lets say you have a post that is optimized for a keyword phrase that is important to you. Do you refresh the post to keep the search engine bots happy and coming back, or do you just keep growing backlinks to the post.

I think the better route to take is to just re-write the old content for a new post... especially if your blog became popular since then.
