I finally have enough sites and traffic to make a move to a VPS. I wanted to get unmanaged hosting from Zensix but they are sold out for now. Can anybody suggest other company for unmanaged vps hosting ?

6sync.com
eurohost.com (so fast no joke try ping fo yoself befo' you wreck yoself)
virptek.com (using this for my 2010 project, have 3 vps w/ them)

Yeah, sorry man... For unmanaged Linode is pretty fair. We're sold out because our datacenter is building out additional space and they have suspended sales until they are finished... So until the have more servers for sale, we are sold out too.

I'd second linode. I've recently gone unmanaged and they have a good community and documentation for things like server hardening, security, etc. Since I'm not hosting anybody and still not real command line saavy, I've been using Virtualmin (free) for a control panel and quite digging it over CPanel and DirectAdmin.

Hmm Thanks a lot.. Any other free control panels ? The one over at VPSVille has LxAdmin unmanaged for $12 which is nice and it comes with apache, mysql preinstalled Hows the panel though ?

Do you know if your looking for an OpenVZ or Xen VPS? Kloxo (LxAdmin) can usually be installed for free by the provider.

I've never used it personally, I'm sure it's just the basics and all that jazz. Take the time to invest in learning how to set up a server without the control panel, and it'll pay dividends.

Linode!

Phenomenal uptime, stable hardware, knowledgeable staff, great control panel.

If you know what you are doing, you'll never need to contact support.

I like tektonic.net. I have used them on and off for several years without any problems.

You could always go with them:
FsckVPS: Unmanaged VPS Hosting

Or
[ TheServerExperts.com ] "Linux & BSD solutions for Web Hosting & Dedicated Servers"

^ They have a VPS management panel that allows you to rebuild your VPS (and/or) install the LxAdmin control panel automatically.
Same goes for Directadmin and cPanel (you'd need their licenses, though).

Alternatively, you can always go with Webmin (tuts available, google). Lightweight and easy to install.

NO!! Stay far away from fsckvps! google their fucking name for christ sakes. They had a MAJOR (i.e. catastrophic) security FAIL about 9 months ago and still haven't really recovered.. all because of hypervm and their crap 'control panel' that still doesn't really act like most other control panels... its not worth it.. you're paying for crap that won't even live up to half of whatever CPU/RAM you're supposedly paying for. </end rant>

linode.com is by the best vps i've ever been on... the community support, the fact you can setup reverse DNS through their backend, not to mention clone + upgrade/downgrade your account with one click (or actually even via their api) makes it FTW. been with a lot of different vps hosts, but i've always gone back to linode..

also dude, you guys should really look into NOT using a control panel as a crutch. It eats up resources you'll eventually be needing to put towards traffic (if you actually get some) not to mention can fuck up + lead to issues later on if u try to add shit that isn't covered in whatever framework you choose (yes, i'm especially talking about cpanel).

Setting up and locking down a vps isn't that hard... google it, you'll find hundreds of posts, tutorials, articles and even fucking straight-up install scripts that will do EVERYTHING for you from partitioning out the proper setups to installing software, setting up yer firewall + any other apps (including monitoring utilities) and you can even find some that will then take your system and go through removing any unnecessary shit that you don't need and/or is a security risk. The time you put in will pay off down the road my friend. trust me.

A great resource is lowendbox.com/blog/
here's what i'm talking about when u ditch memory intensive control panels -
Yes, You Can Run 18 Static Sites on a 64MB Link-1 VPS – Low End Box

This is a post where he puts all the idiots on webhostingtalk to shame with their 'recommended RAM requirements." Including step-by-step instructions he shows ya how you can quickly (and easily) setup 18 domains/websites on a 64megRAM vps.

learn linux.. it's your friend...especially when u get to the stage where you want to start automating shit.

Hey buddy would you want to try my service for free for 15 days and see how it works out for you?
