I'm a UCSB grad from the early 90's and today I recieved and email with the below text and then a link to a video about "staying strong" and showing the memorial's from the shooting aftermath.
After the video it directs you to this page https://www.giveucsb.com/GauchoStrong.htm where they have clearly created a new donation category to "enhance student safety"? WTF? Does it bother anyone else that UCSB feels compelled to raise money off the backs of the people that died?
We at UC Santa Barbara are touched by the outpouring of care and concern from many of our alumni, parents, and friends in the wake of Friday, May 23's devastating occurrence. As University supporters you are an integral part of our Gaucho Family. While we continue to mourn and reflect upon the recent tragedy, we can already see the seeds of hope growing after our campus memorial on Tuesday, May 27. We are comforted by the solidarity and deep compassion coming from our many friends and families. In the Development and Alumni offices, we have heard from hundreds of our alumni, parents, and volunteers with supportive messages and stories that reinforce our close community. Our Gaucho Family is strong and resilient and our wonderful students are taking important steps towards healing. We deeply appreciate the support we are receiving from the entire University of California community, their respective campus vigils for our students has been a display of overwhelming union and partnership.
Here at the beginning of the long process of healing, we know that our routines and outlook will be permanently altered by these tragic events. We will continue to communicate with you as our key stakeholders the important developments and updates on campus. Thank you very much for being an integral part of our community and for your continued commitment to UC Santa Barbara.
