what tool do you use on tehe web to check how many type-ins a domain url gets?

There is no good way to finding this info. If you own the domain yourself, you could always try to park it with one of the domain parking services like Sedo and then watch the sats for like a month.

You can also analyze all other stats and see where all the traffic is coming from. Subtract the amount of visitors coming from search engines or other known sites/sources. What you have left is most probably just type-in hits.

For domains you don't own however, you'd have to ask the owner ;)

If you don't have the access logs of the domain, you cannot count how many type-ins it gets.
You can generate some commons type-ins, and search in Google how many occurrences of the misspelled word are indexed: chances are that the higher this number, the greater the real type-ins.
To test the results you need to register these domains and park them or create one page on you hosting account and looking at the logs. Nowadays domain registration is quite cheap, but you if keep trying with many domains you can waste some good money.
Recently Pool.com announced a nice service, previously reserved only to domain registrars: Catch & Release. With this service you register a domain name and you can evaluate it for approximately 4 1/2 days and decide if you want to keep it. If you do not explicitly keep a domain it will be deleted and you'll be charged the evaluation fee (about 0.20$). I've not tried this service myself, but if you want to know more go there.

Just my 2 cents
