As I said in earlier posts, my partner passed away recently and I have taken over the affiliates side of the business. We have about 15 affiliate accounts and the changeover means I have to change the information in the profiles. To complicate matters, my partner's widow is moving and won't be able access the p.o.box we used any longer, so I have to really move it and change the profile info. (I live in NY and the po box is in Fla.)
So for the past few days I have undertaken the job of changing the affiliate profiles, writing to the affiliate managers about it, sending the new w9 form, checking the profiles, seeing no change in profile, bugging the affiliate managers again and again and again.
It's so fucking difficult to change the profile! I don't know what's going to happen to my checks or where the payment is going, and I have to depend on my partner's widow who has no car, and is moving out of town, to open the p.o. box.
To enhance the experience, we bought a vBulletin license. He was the original licensee, and I paid for a renewal and have the receipt. I wrote to Jelsoft telling them my partner died and the license needs to be transferred, but they refuse to do it. I'm conning them or something, and they don't do it. End of story. I can't get tech support and customer service won't respond to me.
The moral of this story: if you have a business, don't die. If you have a partner, tell the the partner not to die. A lot of the business goes down with the partner, and your survivors will go through hell trying to retrieve the business. If you have a wife or husband, plan ahead not just with your will, but be sure they will be able to retrieve your account info and get the payments they're entitled to.
I'm getting the impression that businesses are not set up to allow for a person's death.
