To WWW or not to WWW... That is the question

Where is the better place to redirect your domains?

I wonder if keyword density matters... so if your keyword is "my domain" then in the non www a greater percentage of your domain name is "my domain" because the www adds 3 additional letters?

doubt it... and i'm sure it doesnt matter where you redirect everything but i'm doing this to all my sites tonight so i fiugred id ask

www here forced. As I always say, doesn't matter, pick one and keep it that way for the life of the domain.

I like to mix it up. Long domain name... no www. Short name... I'll think about it. I really don't think it matters much though.

It really does matter.

Search engines often see them as different addresses. If you have half your links to non and half to www you are splitting your inlinks....

And this is why you set redirect in mod_rewrite, isn't it?

people are tards. my entire university uses www.subdomain.SCHOOL.edu i guess just because people associate EVERYTHING with www.SOMETHING

it would just be so much easier and make so much more damn sense if it were:
learn.ex.edu
studentservices.ex.edu

but no...

so www. is my vote.

I use www on sites where it is just one site per domain, and use .htaccess to redirect.

It amazes me how many big BIG websites use either www or non-www and don't redirect the other. Fuckin annoying when you know the site, type it in and have to go back and add a www after getting 'page not found'.

I usually redirect to non-www. What annoys me is when sites don't redirect at all and have different cookies for the www and non-www website. So you have to log in twice if just some links point/redirect to the other version.

I use www.

The question is how do some sites have 2 different things with and without www. Is it just a www subdomain or am I missing something?

I just don't understand why a lot of popular sites can't be accessed withoute www, i can't explain how this things annoy a lot of times i think that site isn't working, but noooo i forgot to enter www.

Their server is setup wrong in either DNS or htaccess or both.

It used to happen all the time. Now at least most webdesigners know whats up with that.
