I was split testing 2 landing pages on a new campaign overnight, logged in this morning to find that I had just broken even. Fantastic! Go to see what my landing pages were like, and find that of almost 300 clicks to the second one, I had 0% click through to the offer.

Turns out I fucked up the link and it led to a 404.

This is just your friendly reminder to not skip steps when starting campaigns. Also, don't start campaigns at 11pm if you can help it.

To be perfectly honest I didn't notice my LP CTR at first, and figured the second one just sucked because all the leads came from the first one over hundreds of clicks. So I've already taken the second LP out of my rotation, I only actually noticed because I thought I'd compare the LP CTRs to see whether or not there was a huge discrepancy.

There was.

haha, I once set up a campaign at 5AM in a parking lot and forgot to turn the content network off. Went to sleep and burned through my $300 budget by the time I woke up. Got 1 lead.

Curious minds want to know. What circumstances cause you to be in a parking lot at 5am (I assume after a night of partying hard or making out with your girl) - and say "Ok, time for work" and you pull out the laptop in the darkness and do a campaign in your car?

It was probably a very late night run to for a rub-n-tug, nothing like paying for a handy to remind yourself to make some money.

Ok, I buy the tug theory in the parking lot at 5am, but doing a campaign in a car? Seriously, do you know how uncomfortable and awkward that must be, on a laptop, in darkness, getting keywords, etc?

There's more to this story. I think he was stalking his ex and hanging out in the car, bored, and said "Might as well get some work done"?

i made a campaign on facebook when i was drunk. woke up wached tv, checked it, saw that it was linking to a picture of me. gg copy paste fail

edit: come to think of it, why the fuck did they approve that... assholes

^^ That sucks. I've had them approve an ad that linked to a 404 page before, I made a typo when I created the ad. Didn't matter though, I just created the URL I had typed in (it was just like 'paage.php' instead of 'page.php')

lol sucks. at least u know you have a profitable campaign now. :D
Haha yeah, exactly.

Pro Tip: Be sure when bidding on high volume "work at home keywords" to set your bids at 0.72 cents.... NOT 72.00 dollars. You will blow your entire budget before Yahoo even has a chance to update your stats.

If you haven't made a douchebag mistake like this at least once, then you either haven't been in the game long enough, or you've never tried putting together a PPC campaign towards the end of a late 15 hour grind session. Lulz.

I did 80 dollars once instead of 80 cents. Only ended up paying 4$ cpc though lol.

yep, done all of the above. Also forgot to check my LP on a new campaign in IE today, and of course it was all out of whack.

FUCK! IE! I just checked and one of my campaigns looks like shit on IE...

IE, how I hate thee!

::emp::

Hahaha. Well, I was working over night security for some shitty store (so you can tell how successful I was then)

But I like the tug story better so let' s go with that one. :338:

LMAO

I am much more careful now, but I had a time or two when I screwed up and did not double check a landing page to just throw a lot of money down the drain.

My dumbest mistake ever was when I uploaded a spreadsheet to google, and I had screwed up and just dragged the bid down in excel, which caused each bid to increment by $1.00. I think the highest bid was listed at like $800 but I got away with having one keyword where I paid $75 a click 4 times. Probably should have been .25 - .35 clicks.
