I have several forums which I purchased from other people. They already had established communities and dedicated moderators. They do a fantastic job of taking care of themselves & growing.

I am in the process of building several others, and one thing that I've been spending a lot of my time wondering about is how to go about getting some community inertia started.

It seems to me that having someone who is a strong resource in the subject on hand is almost a necessity. How do you guys go about finding these people?

Care to share?

Much Appreciated,
S

Linkbaits could draw people to register and post. Make some accounts and answer questions with some really wrong answers, but make it seem like your shit don't stink.

Or you could just drop in a few dickrolls and the occasional 'review copy plz'.

Form my experience, communities are tough to monetize with advertising. I'd recommend not to buy communities for the sake of having them but rather building them around someting bigger.
But talking about growing a community I'd find a good reason why people should come back. Be it fresh content, the kind of people writing on the board. Look at wicked fire, why is this community so interesting. It is certainly different than the other communities about similar interests.
