I'm not quite sure where I read this, but is it true that if your subdomain gets dropped from the serps it won't affect your root directory as well as any other subdomains since they are treated as separate from one another, unlike a subfolder within the root directory? I'm not planning on doing anything negligible, but I want to protect my main site incase google decides for unforseen reasons to drop one of my subdomains. In short if I my subdomain is fucked will my main domain be fine?

On to the second question, sorry this post is a double hitter. I'm new to subdomains and don't fully understand it yet, apparently people say the permalink structure in wordpress gets fucked up within subdomains and can't be installed via fantastico... Oddly enough the permalink structure doesn't get fucked up and I installed it via fantastico, go figure... But what I don't understand is how come you can access the newly made subdomain like it was a subfolder in the main directory i.e. subdomain.domain.com can also be accessed domain.com/subdomain, I've read somewhere that its the same thing, this is where the first question comes into play because I know if your main domain gets dropped from the serps any subfolders underneath it will likely get dropped as well, or I'm I just being paranoid. I guess what I'm trying to get at is the fact that subdomain url structure can also be accessed like its a subfolder under my root directory concerns me because of "unforseen reasons google decides to drop my site from the serps." Prime example I'm trying to achieve would be forums.digitalpoint.com can't be accessed digitalpoint.com/forums.

Not sure if I'm making sense but if you can understand what I'm saying you are not human, and thank you.

I can't address your other questions, but I think I can address this one. It sounds like you are on a cPanel install - this is the default behavior of how cPanel sets up subdomains and addon domains.

Yes I'm on cPanel, so if thats how cPanel handles subdomains, how is it any different from just creating a folder underneath the main directory? Really all I'm worried about is the subdomain affecting my main site in an adverse way.

I've been reading forums regarding subfolders vs. subdomains, and the obvious benefits of subfolders is the PR gets distributed from the main site whereas subdomains don't get the benefit of the PR distribution. I don't care about the PR, as most of my attention is focused on if the subdomain gets dropped for whatever reason from the serps will my main site get dropped as well? Again I'm going on what I read, but there was no followup on that forum regarding this so I'm just making sure. And I can't find the thread anymore so I'm stuck.
