Thesis Theme seems to be pretty popular, but if you take a look at the website, it doesn't do much of a job selling what the theme actually does. I think I have a pretty good idea based on what I've researched, but the website itself doesn't tell much about what Thesis does differently than a base install of WP.

I'm familiar with the ins and outs of Wordpress and I'm not likely their target client, so I'm not looking for someone to sell me on what thesis does. The point is, someone shouldn't have to tell me what its for, it should be more clear from the website.

Anyone else have comments on how Thesis is marketed and how it's successful? If you look at bb_wolfe's review plugin, his website does a solid job of telling exactly what the script does and why you should buy it.

Looks like they're just pitching to their target audience. There's not much point in trying to sell to someone who doesn't make themes or otherwise do basic/intermediate web design. Otherwise, they would have to be in the business of teaching web/CMS design.

Did you not watch the videos? They take you step-by-step the features of the theme. It basically makes it really easy for anyone to customize the layout of the their theme.

I have it and it works pretty well.

Justin Tadlock's Hybrid Theme is similar -- and it's open source

Hybrid WordPress Theme Framework

I have it... it's a good theme. I guess their USP is being able to customize it to look like anything you want without having to mess with the code (pocketrockets partially beat me to this :)). That and it is supposedly the most SEO'd out of all other themes. If you work with Wordpress a bunch it's worth getting it.

I have 12+ sites using the Thesis Theme. All of them are ranking well, get plenty of traffic, and now that I know Thesis well, it takes a matter of minutes to get a new legit site up and have a writer start writing for it.

Thesis, for me, takes modding/customizing wordpress themes out of my schedule so it's totally worth the cash for it. I simply save a lot of time by using Thesis.

I recommend it for anybody, even experienced WP users (I like to believe i'm in that category).

i tried it and thought it sucked. overly complicated for something that can be done easier with a few plugins

I have a lot of Wordpress development experience and do Wordpress consulting, so I'm not going to buy it when I can code something myself or edit the sidebar myself if I want to add new content.

I may not be the ideal buyer but I don't think the site does a good job selling what it actually does.

I love Thesis. It's simple yet powerful. What makes it such a kiss ass theme is that you can be a total coding retard like me and use it gracefully (learning all the while) or you can be pretty damn knowledgeable and still benefit. Let BBwolfe tell you his reasons for loving Thesis as I asked him this same question one time.
