?Candy man? gives sweet solution to ex-workers - American Story with Bob Dotson

Bud Kolbrener was enjoying an active retirement. Just 54, he traveled widely and lived well after selling a candy company in St. Louis for a sweet profit.

But then one day he got a call from a couple of longtime employees, Debbie and Marley Otto. "They needed some help," Bud recalled. "They needed a place to work."

Marley’s unemployment insurance had run out. So Bud set aside his leisurely lifestyle and returned to 80-hour workweeks, doing what he’d done since he started his first business at age 18.

Read the whole article, it's pretty incredible what Bud Kolbrener did for his employees.

Also, show them some love and buy their candy :)

Their pastries look awesome! (damn this diet!)

That's a cool story. It's a good thing Bud Kolbrener wasn't a member here, he probably would have told his old employees to GTFO and then dick roll 'em.

It reminds me of that one company in the UK that called a meeting for all of the staff when he was about to sell the company, and he opened with "you're all fired"
then he paused and watched and then said "but you all get 350,000 from the sale" or something like that. Gave away like 80% of his own profit from the sale to his workers.

Reminds me of him, bravo.
