Hey fellow WFers. Asking this to those who have read the book or watched the movie (if somebody doesn't know - The Secret Movie)

So, for those who are familiar with so called law of attraction. What are your thoughts? Do you follow it? Or you think it's just one big BS?

Personally I think it works and pretty fcking well. But I think they exaggerate a little bit, "you can make millions in the next 30 days", sounds like all these crappy e-books you see on DP.

Anyways, what do you think?

P.S For those who haven't watched movie or read book, go do it.

I've seen the secret a couple of years ago and Id be lying if I don't admit that it fired me up with enthusiasm during the first few days after watching it. It's basically the same as hindu karma.

never seen the movie; that said, it's called "confidence", it's a lot bigger than just some "secret", and if you're asking other people on the internet "if it works", you're doing it wrong.

I'm not asking people whether it works or not. That stuff was a great motivation for me and gave a boost to my confidence. Just interesting to read, what other people think about this

The Secret is based upon the writings on Think and Grow Rich. If you're not familiar with this book its something Napolean Hill was comissioned (I think he was comissioned) to write by Andrew Carnegie.

Andrew Carnegie wanted to know the difference between the richest men in the world and your average joe (besides wealth). What qualities did these wealthy people possess that average joe didn't?

After extensive research and interviews a few qualities surfaced that these mega-rich shared...and that averages joes didn't have... so The Secret while it's very overhyped isn't entirely bullshit.

Interesting and Useful stuff.

I've been in some sort of sales or marketing for over 30 years now.

I've been to more seminars and read more books than I could possibly count.

As far as the "Secret" or "The Law of Attraction" goes, it’s an actual phenomenon of philosophy.

I myself have experienced BOTH the positive and negative results of, "Continued focused thought with emotion behind it."

Whatever you think on most does actually seem to manifest itself in your life. It does not matter whether the thought is a positive or a negative.

It was my early life experience with this that got me interested in NLP for not only marketing, but my own "self-talk" for gaining desired outcomes. (As well as what thoughts/talk to avoid that may hinder a desired action or goal.)

I know the OP was not asking if it worked or not. I just wanted to lay a little of my experience out before commenting on it.

Having positive affirmation cards around and reading them all day is an "OK" way to start. But this will not achieve consistent & reliable results.

I've found that in order for it to become a usable tool in your life you must be very vigilant with your thoughts and the emotions behind them.

You must also be aware of what you see & hear. It gets quite tedious for awhile until it becomes a natural way of thinking and functioning.

It's sometimes frustrating to those close to me. I tend to break down my thoughts/speech and theirs in the same way I tear apart & analyze an ad, LP, or campaign.

I'll wrap this up before I turn it into a novelette.

"I" feel that Law of Attraction and NLP are both worth the time & effort to learn and implement in one's life.

They can help with personal and business success & fulfillment.

I have read that book by Napolean Hill.. its good and part of the reason i think I will never, ever work for anyone but myself.

It's all about cultivating a mindset that leads you to situations that are most beneficial to you. After that it's still up to chance, luck, etc. The "secret" is to use willpower and optimism to guide you to profitable situations and allow you to take full advantage of them.

Policing what goes in to your head and developing the ability to clearly express your thoughts are key for getting what you want from an interaction.

Agreed; living well is not about applying a series of steps, it is about understanding the subconscious cues that guide our actions and trying to harness some of that mental energy for a desired result instead of just seeing what happens. (You're going to see what happens either way, why not think and prepare as much as possible for the outcome that you are shooting for?)

I started reading Think And Grow Rich, but once it said something about writing some shit down, I decided that it's too much work so I gave up...

Nope. The Secret is based on "The Science of Getting Rich", which came out a couple of decades before "Think and Grow Rich" and is by a different author entirely. It was while reading "The Science Getting Rich" that the author got the inspiration to write The Secret.

To confuse it further Hill wrote a book called The Law of Success, of which Think And Grow Rich was a watered down version. Henry Ford was pissed at Hill was revealing the secrets of the Upper Class and convinced Hill to water it down to Think and Grow Rich.

Going back to the other book, The Science of Getting Rich, on which The Secret is based, it itself was based on an earlier book still, that was about The Law Of Attraction - a very popular concept at the time, and all sorts of Esotericists, Hermeticism, Theosophists and the "New-Agers" of the time were writing about it in the late 19th/early 20th century. Hill also drew a little on the concept, but without crossing the line into pseudo-scientific esotericism.

Fuck self-delusion and victimhood. Face your reality as it is and know yourself as you are.

The Secret is based in true psychological phenomena, but the movie etc. turned it into a magic bullet product for the masses. So now there are people out there who think they can just focus on the idea of an elephant vividly enough then the universe will make one appear in their living room. Of course that's bullshit.

Think and Grow Rich gets to the real essence of it. I haven't read The Science of Getting Rich, but sounds interesting.

Ha ha this made me LOL, well played!

A friend asked me if I heard of The Secret a few years ago & I asked her wtf it was about. She told me & it was along the same lines of T&GR for me.

Dispel, thanks for clearing that up, Law of Success is on my to read list. Also is The Science of Getting Rich more scientific like?

I saw The Secret book, read the chapter titles & decided I wasn't going to read her spin on it but would stick to the OG philosophies. I am glad it was marketed to the mainstream of people who wouldn't be interested in that info normally so I say she did that well.

Basically marketing online, running our own biz is a far out reality for most people so they have no need for laws of success or big goals/plans. Most people I know who are successful in real life are readers & into Tony Robbins, T&GR etc.

On the flip side of the coin, have you ever focused on a bad situation & the outcome came out negative like you expected? Some call it an intuition or gut feeling but in some ways that's a powerful lesson of "The Secret", willing yourself or whatever you wanna call it that most (read: ALL) people have experienced.

The opinions in this thread are about 100 times more positive towards "The Secret" than I would have guessed.

I concur with most in this thread, although "The Secret" is about as watered down, kindergardenish book for the masses as you could have on the subject.

Quantam physics and molecular biology have some overlapping aspects to these philosophies which are very interesting.

But basically our brain grows new fibers and synapsis when we focus on (or study) something. That's why when we study or practice or learn we tend to improve. The brain grows new fibers like a muscle that help us become more "Expert". So logically, our intentions or whatever we focus on manifest themselves into our lives. Heightened emotional states cause our brain to grow and pattern more quickly, therefore why "positive" thoughts are said to be so important.

This is the best explanation I have seen about The Secret.

In a nutshell, I believe that your life's circumstances are a direct reflection of what you have focused on. The Secret tries to make it some magical thing that Joe Blow Truck Driver can do, like imagining a Ferrari and BAM it shows up on his driveway.
