I love this show, but I especially love it when they show scams that I can apply to my own life haha.

Wow, they really run outta legit scams on that show.

Bullshit.

No "software" (or almost none) can be downloaded that way.

The only thing that is right is the security guy stating that the danger lies in people copying accounts databases or proprietary information, which is sadly drowned by the "THEY STEAL VALUABLE SOFTWARE" bull.

Its not possible on a windows machine but it is possible on a mac. For most programs you simply drag an icon into your applications folder to install it. So if you want to copy that application you simply drag that icon to the portable drive.

I'd guess it would work for most programs.

As cool as the scam is, I'd rather just download the software + keygen.

The bad thing is that this COULD happen. You won't get "the latest multimedia packages" very often, but you can get the preloaded CRAP that the put on the machines by default...

Oh, and this IS a very real threat to businesses (not retail computer stores) as you can in the Hollywood-reality "Firewall" movie. Glamorized, but still possible. Just think, a 4gig USB drive, code that runs on inserting the drive, which copies out certain folders (like the WinXP image folder). Stick it in, walk around a few minutes, come back and walla...

I seen them filming this and they always have a crew with them outside. The managers / owners know about the scam and only the target victim is not clued up about the full sting.

A lot of the stuff they show is very basic and slightly modified as its on mainstream digital tv.
