Okay, so I started a blog for fun and have been messing around with it. I've been tinkering around trying to get it going and so far I've done the following;

- Set it up with feedburner
- Put it on Technorati
- Put some things on Digg
- Put some things on Shoutwire
- Did the StumbleUpon thing

Here's my blog http://worseless-gamer.blogspot.com/

Any other suggestions?

This is all for fun so I'm not looking to make money off it but if I can coin in some change that would be nice...I think.

I love that FUCK! icon

Im guessing since you arent trying to make any money off of the site you arent using any stats program since its a blogspot.com hosted blog. If you want to get stats you can use the free version of statcounter to get basic stats on your blog. Heres the link http://www.statcounter.com

If you like it pass along some rep. when you have time.

Xrproto, I know you said that you just kind of messing around with your blog, but you should really consider ditching blogger/blogspot and try setting up a Wordpress blog on your own domain. The software is a billion times for powerful and flexible and if you ever do want to take your blog to the next level, you won't have to deal with a domain switch that would temporarily sting you pretty bad with visitors and search engines.

Setting up the Wordpress blog is incredibly easy, and if you have a Dreamhost as your webhost, they even have a "one click install" feature that lets you install the blog quickly and easily straight from their web interface. Even if you don't have Dreamhost you can easily just download the files from Wordpress.org, upload them to your own host, and then navigate to the install URL to install it in one or two easy steps.

I really do strongly suggest Wordpress. I started a blog about a year ago at Blogger just to mess around, then found myself really regretting it so I made the switch and lost a bit of traffic during that transition (though I've more than made up for it since).

As this is the Newbie section, can I ask what the benefit of pinging is and how it works?
Sure. Like I said, pinging these services will increase traffic to your site. It won't be a lot, but you may notice. By pinging these services you are adding your blog to a list on their site. People (and spiders) on these sites will be taken to your blog or feed when they click the link. I ping with pingoat after every post I make and usually within 2 minutes or so I'll have 2-5 spiders roaming my blog.

Last month my referral stats showed I had 50+ referrals from http://blo.gs, which came from my pings on Pingoat. Every little bit helps :)

It's very easy to do as well. Just go to pingoat and fill in your blog information. Ping them and then bookmark the page. You just have to go back to that link whenever you want to ping. I made a subdomain that redirects to my ping page as well incase I'm not at home.

Try it out.

(please note that you may notice some spam comments show up on your blog after pinging. Expect this, but know that it's not the only traffic you're getting from it :p)

Thanks squirrelinabox & stickycarrots.

I will use those to ping services and I've thought about making my own domain and using wordpress I just don't know yet.

But I guess I better decide soon before I get to far into and it just makes matters worse.

Great advice you two thanks again.

All good advice here, get your own domain, install wordpress, (I'd go with google analytics instead of statcounter, no wait period anymore.) Doing a blog for fun is the best, you can focus on the readers rather than posts that make the most money.

RE: Domain/WP
YOU CAN DO IT! Have faith in yourself and besides, there's lots of people to help you. You are NOT alone in taking this step.

If I can do it......trust me.....you can. Be (wo)man and don't let an extreme noob like me pass you by! JUST DO IT!
