Say you're creating a content website that you intend on growing over time:

Would you create the Nav as a PHP file so that whenever you update the PHP file it will appear changed across all pages (so you don't have to edit each page manually)? Or do you use another system?

How would you archive old articles/links so articles/stories/pages that are no longer linked on your homepage/subpage that aren't directly linked to so the SE still like them and can find them?

Ironically I did this today, using php includes for the navigation bar, ad blocks, etc so that any changes to thes could be made globally from just changing 1 file.

As for the archived articles, I would think as with any other site or cms as long as you have a link from the index page to a site map page the SE's and surfers would still find all the archives.

to answer your first question, I always separate the parts that aren't unique to 1 particular page. it makes it much easier to change it later on.
